She talks about how choices in words can change the meaning and that analyzing texts by authors is an example of metalanguage because by analyzing, one is trying to figure out what the authors purpose is. Metalanguage in this context also stops one from being simple and just statin what happened, it helps develop a sense of how things work and go into play.
