Going into the class Digital Rhetoric and Writing, I was not sure what exactly the course was about. I figured we would be using technology hence the digital part of the course, but I was not expecting to be creating a blog and using my deep creative thoughts and imagination. I am thrilled to be using my own ideas for the projects assigned to us.
I feel like this course will benefit me in my future being a teacher because most lessons, projects, and homework are digital. Using multimodal types like images, audio texts, videos, and slideshows can be useful for many students to get more of a visual idea of learning. Building a community online with your students can be beneficial because you can build a relationship and get to know them better. For example, I had a professor last semester who used a discussion portion through D2L, and we interacted with each other and the professor and that was how we were graded for homework. I got to get an idea on others thoughts and I was able to learn from them, and people got to learn from me as well. I have always found multimodal types useful considering I interact digitally on a daily basis. I use social media frequently throughout the day, I use e books for my English courses, and I use Google for almost any question I have. Being creative digitally is important to keep students engaged and motivated. I compose digitally mainly through email, texting, and social media.
I spend most of my day on my phone or computer. I Phones have a setting where one can see how often they are on their phone for, called screen time. My daily average is 5 hours and 47 minutes on my phone, and my most amount of time spent on apps are Safari, messages, Instagram, and Youtube. I am consumed with technology throughout my day, but I cannot picture my life without it. I am surrounded by technology every day, whether that is at work, at school, or being on my computer in my free time. Writing digitally to me means writing something online or through a device. This can vary from writing a paper on google docs to texting a friend. I am excited to get a better understanding of this during class.
